The 10 best coves in Alicante

You’re probably thinking about how soon summer and holidays are just around the corner. And then there’s Easter and some long weekends before that. So it’s a good time to start planning your next getaway. From Hoteles Benidorm, as experts in holiday accommodation, we recommend that you visit the Costa Blanca and get to know some of the 10 best coves in Alicante.

What are the best coves in Alicante?

Make no doubt about it, making a selection of the 10 best coves in Alicante is not easy, as it is a privileged place full of beaches. However, we want to guide you on your next holiday so that you can discover some of the best spots in the province. So take note of our suggestions:

Granadella Cove

We start with a cove located in the town of Jávea. You will love to enjoy its clear and calm waters. It is made of white stone and is at the foot of a cliff. It is a beautiful place, but it has a handicap: it is not possible to park nearby. You have to get there by bus or on foot. The advantage is that it’s not usually very crowded.

Tio Ximo Cove

One of Benidorm’s best known coves, it is small and rocky, rather than sandy. It is surrounded by cliffs and its calm waters will allow you to swim many months of the year. It is also perfect for water sports such as snorkelling.

Mosca Cove.

It is located in Orihuela. It is a special place, as it is the only area in the municipality where the land is not developed. However, it is a cove where naturism is permitted. It also has spectacular fauna and flora, including protected species. It has a rich seabed and is also perfect for snorkelling.

Tabarca Island cove

Visiting Tabarca Island is a must if you visit Alicante. It can be reached by boat from various points along the coast of Alicante and has an infinite number of places to visit, such as the walls surrounding the city centre. As a point of interest, they have been declared a Historic-Artistic Site and an Asset of Cultural Interest. Of course, you can’t miss its beach, which combines sand and small pebbles. Moreover, its waters are calm and clear.

La Caleta in Villajoyosa

Villajoyosa has many beaches where you can enjoy a day at the sea. However, if you are looking for peace and quiet, we recommend La Caleta. It is located on the outskirts of the town and is not usually very crowded. The imposing cliffs that surround it form an enclave in which to enjoy a day out that you will not soon forget.

Moraig cove in Benitachell

This cove has the advantage of having a parking area. Then you will walk a few minutes to descend a slope that will take you straight to the beach. There is also a free bus in July and August to go up and down to the cove. As is the case with almost all the Costa Blanca coves, it is perfect for water sports. A curiosity is that it has a cave that can be accessed.

El Portet cove in Moraira

It is a beach that has lost a little of its charm in recent years, as the little sand that was left has been replaced by quarry gravel. Even so, it is worth a visit to enjoy the waters full of underwater life. You can also rent a paddle board or a kayak.

El Charco cove in Villajoyosa

We return to the Vila to recommend another cove. Its access is somewhat complicated, but once you get there you will be impressed both by its calm waters and by the Torre del Charco. It is built on the rocks and was constructed in the 17th century. It is true that it could be a better preserved monument, but even so it has its charm.

Cantalar Cove

It is located in Cabo de las Huertas and is its most important cove. It has fine sand and clear waters. We recommend that you go there in good time and take advantage of the day to explore the surrounding area.

El Mascarat cove.

As with Tabarca Island, this cove can only be reached by boat from the town that bears its name, El Mascarat. As well as having a good swim in its calm waters, you can go kayaking, scuba diving or snorkelling. While you’re in the area, be sure to visit the Mascarat Canyon. Formed by the erosion of water on the rocks, it is one of Alicante’s tourist attractions to be discovered.
