In this new publication of our blog, we want to leave you with the villages near Benidorm that will surely not leave you indifferent. Some visits for those people who want to discover everything about the destinations they visit during their holidays. As you’ll discover, Benidorm’s surroundings have plenty of secrets waiting for you. Are you going to miss them? This is our list!
Villajoyosa
This is one of the towns near Benidorm from the south. It has one of the most famous promenades in the province, with its colourful houses and palm tree lined promenade. An ideal stop at any time of the year.
A few metres from the promenade, its hanging houses are waiting for you, ready to leave you open-mouthed. They are located on the Amadorio River and are next to the Old Town, which often hosts markets of different types.
There is a little surprise for dessert lovers… The Valencian Chocolate Museum is located here, together with the Valor and Chocolates Clavileño factories. And of course, the town’s cafés and chocolate shops are not far behind.
Polop
A visit far from the coast, but full of charm. A village recognisable by its medieval layout and features that will catch your eye from afar as you drive down the road. Walking through its ancient streets and its castle on the highest peak will leave you with postcards that will be hard to forget.
Guadalest
The castle of Guadalest is not only one of the villages near Benidorm, but it is also an asset of cultural interest. It has been so since 1974, when it was declared an artistic and historical heritage site. On your visit, you will come across several castles, a parish church, emblematic buildings and a medieval prison.
The most visible castle is the Castle of San José. It is a fortress of Muslim origin and dates back to the 11th century. It stands on the highest rock in the village. The other castle is that of Alcozaiba, which has the same origin as the castle of San José, but is located in the domain of the former Casa Orduña. Nowadays, it is only a tower in ruins.
On the other hand, the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción dates from the 18th century and is identified with the Baroque style, an obligatory stop for architecture lovers.
Away from the cultural interest, Guadalest is a perfect destination to spend the day in contact with nature and enjoy the incredible views it offers. The viewpoint overlooking the reservoir from the highest square in the village is one of the most photographed in the whole province.
La Nucia
This is a village very close to Polop and you will pass through it if you are going to Polop from Benidorm. It is a village surrounded by nature but it is constantly being updated. In fact, apart from its Old Town, you can enjoy buildings such as the Auditori de la Mediterrània and the Seu Universitària.
It is also a great option for people who love hiking. It has four green routes totalling more than 20 kilometres. They are conditioned and prepared for anyone, regardless of their physical condition. So it is a great option to go with the family.
Calpe
The coastal town of Calpe is one of the great emblems of the Mediterranean. Undoubtedly, its most popular sight is the Peñón de Ifach. The plans you can make here include enjoying its natural surroundings and its centre, which is full of leisure and gastronomic options, both in the old part and in the maritime part.
For lovers of architecture, there is the stamp of Ricardo Bofill in the form of the Red Wall and the Xanadu building. Probably the most photographed building on the Costa Blanca thanks to its geometric route in which you can enjoy the contrast between warm and cold colours.
Without leaving the town, the famous Salinas and the Baños de la Reina (Queen’s Baths) are waiting for you, an ancient Roman site not to be missed.
But if you come to Calpe in summer, you can’t miss the opportunity to take a dip in its paradisiacal coves. Do you want to know our favourites? Our favourites are Cala El Racó, Playa de la Fossa and Playa del Arenal-Bol.
Altea
If Guadalest has the most photographed viewpoint and Calpe has the most photographed building… The town of Altea is undoubtedly the most popular on social networks. Its iconic Plaza at the top of the Old Town and next to the Parroquita de Nuestra Señora del Consuelo is an essential visit for the views and its gastronomic options. Every corner of Altea looks like something out of a fairy tale.
